A stroke should be suspected in all cases in the presence of an acute principle of brain function: the appearance of neurological symptoms or changes in the level of consciousness.
Do not hope that these symptoms will pass on their own. You can’t do without the help of a doctor!
In case of suspicion of a stroke, relatives or others must determine the presence of pathological changes,which help to quickly determine which patients need urgent medical care:
- The weakness of the facial muscles (whether the patient can show his teeth or smile) - normally both halves of the face move equally well.
- Motor weakness of the hands (legs) - with a disease, one arm (leg) does not move or falls compared to the other.
- Speech violation - the patient uses the wrong words, pronounces them inexpensively, slurred or cannot speak.
Patients with a stroke must urgently hospitalize. Treatment of a patient in the acute period of a stroke is carried out in the conditions of a specialized neurological department, which allows due to the exact diagnosis of the nature of the stroke, intensive treatment and early rehabilitation, to reduce the risk of death and disability of patients.
In the city of Minsk, in recent years, a highly effective treatment method has been introduced and has been used - thrombolysis, which allows you to restore blood flow in damaged vessels. Unfortunately, at present, a very small number of patients can provide this type of highly effective assistance, since there are a number of contraindications to conduct this treatment method. In the same patients who can spend a thrombus lysis have a strict time limit: from the onset of the disease and before the needle gets into Vienna, no more than three hours should pass.
